Kathi Petersen received her first
chisel set when she was only 12 years old. Her first carvings were traditional Santas and colourful fish. These soon blossomed into an endless
array of animals, people and wondrous creatures that were witty, charming and
often wise. Eventually Kathi began making larger work, enchanting mirrors and
one-of-a-kind carved furniture pieces.
Kathi believes that personal energies are inherent in an artist's work and that joy and imagination, laughter and memories are contagious elements worthy of being provoked. She is inspired by water and much of her work draws on the mythical power and energy of the ocean as well as the bright colors of childhood and underwater worlds.
Each Pufferbellies item is drawn, cut out, carved by hand with knives, sanded and painted by Kathi.
